A character says, “I’ll go searching for them now,” in reference to a lady’s legs buried beneath a dress when said lady says she can’t feel them. The character meant nothing uncouth by it, but the author did.
Sexual Content
Cheshire Cat suggests a female should have a clandestine relationship with a male character.
It is said by a woman that a man is a very good kisser in her dreams. She mentions fantasizing about him caressing her. Though, it did not expound any further.
A male character steals the laces from the corset being worn by a woman, though only to ease her breathing.
Violence
Two anthropomorphic cards are described as shredded cardstock after a death that occurs off the pages.
There are multiple beheadings towards the end—I’d expect nothing less of the Queen of Hearts.
Occult & Supernatural
A set of "ill" triplets makes a brief appearance (described as pale with wholly black eyes and silver hair). These girls want items of no use to someone. They prophecy the future in the form of graphic drawings.
Spiritual Content
No spiritual or religious content.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Though, I must be honest, I had tried reading it once before and couldn’t get into it the first time round. Now, four years later, I’m glad I decided to give it another try.
